News Concerning Our Spring Art Walk

We will have some new entertainment this year as Mr. Curry has procured “The Groove Merchants” for the special music during our Art Walk. Mr. Curry has written an “Art Walk Proposal” to add this new band to the performance.

Cherokee’s School Improvement Plan

This is a plan to improve student academics and teacher staff development opportunities throughout our district. Teachers participate in writing a goal to improve test scores at every grade level. Our school goal will once again be reading comprehension and vocabulary. Cherokee will present our SIP on April 30th to the district. Susi Griffing will present the power point and Brie Thomas will present an overview of our staff development opportunities.

Site Council To Participate In Cherokee’s SIP

On April 7th, during a regularly scheduled meeting, every teacher will write a reflection on how they supported our school’s reading goal. Teachers will also contribute information on all of the staff development opportunities in which we, as a staff, have attended, thus completing six hours of various training. Our rationale for completing these tasks is to demonstrate how we are keeping students on intervention plans for those students who “Falls Far Below” in reading academics. Our measurable goal is to raise benchmark reading scores in the third, fourth, and fifth grades. These benchmark scores will be part of our documentation.

We Recognize Our Charros Winners For 2009
Please congratulate Bronwyn Milhaven as our “Charros Teacher of the Year,” and Nicole Keniston as our “Charros Volunteer of the Year.” These two ladies are outstanding candidates and we appreciate all they have done to make Cherokee a stronger community.
